## 6-5 Solving Linear Inequalities

**Objectives:**Graph and solve linear inequalities in two variables.

Since there are infinite solutions to a linear inequality in two variables, it is easiest to show the solutions by graphing.

The line is dashed because the inequality is greater than (or less than).
It is shaded above the line because the inequality is greater than (or greater than or equal to). |
The line is solid because the inequality is less than or equal to (or greater than or equal to).
It is shaded below the line because the inequality is less than or equal to (or less than). |

To graph the solutions of a linear inequality:

- Solve the inequality for y (slope intercept form)
- Graph the line (dotted or solid)
- Color (above or below the line)
